Port Crane Relocation

Barnhart was called on to relocate an 850-ton container crane from Blount Island Terminal to Talirand Terminal in Jacksonville, Florida. The crane towered at 158’ high with a 100’ out reach and a 60’ back reach. The water route between the terminals included a highway bridge with 171’ clearance at mean high water level. By ballasting the barge and timing the trip to arrive at the bridge at low tide, the barge cleared the bridge by 5’6”. Barnhart used two of our 600-ton slide systems to slide the crane on and off the barge. Steel matting was employed to distribute the loading on the deck of the barge. The project was completed safely and on time.
