Refinery Reactor Lift in an Operating Unit using MLTA petroleum refinery in central US employed the repeat use of the Modular Lift Tower (MLT) to erect two reactors adjacent to an operating unit in an area completely restricted from using a heavy lift crane. This refinery had previously used the MLT to erect the 500t platformer vessel of a previous expansion.
The reactors were to be located in a congested area where even the MLT would need to be erected in pieces instead of the normal construction method of "panels". Utilizing a 500t hydraulic crane from the Barnhart rental fleet the MLT was erected in a few days using the steel mat grillage as the base. The main 200t reactor and a smaller unit were delivered to the lift area and both erected with the same MLT system with the 500t as the tail crane.
The hoisting of the vessels was provided using Barnhart 550t capacity modular hoisting unit. The hoist system is a self contained power unit, hydraulic drive and cable hoist that is controlled from grade and offers positioning in three directions including an internal shifting system for final alignment.
