(MEMPHIS, Tenn.)—Barnhart Crane and Rigging Co., a leading provider of heavy rigging and transportation solutions based in Memphis, has purchased Gadsden, Ala-based Taylor Crane Rental and Rigging.

The project office will provide heavy lift cranes, specialized transportation and engineered lifting services for industrial contractors and manufacturers in north Alabama, southeastern Tennessee and northwest Georgia. Other Barnhart facilities in the area include offices in Atlanta, Ga.; Knoxville, Tenn.; and Decatur, Ala.

"Taylor Crane has an excellent reputation for service and safety,” said Jeff Latture, vice president, Heavy Contracting, Barnhart Crane and Rigging. “Sonny Taylor has presided over an outstanding organization. The company has been in business for 31 years and never had a single accident. Similarly, Barnhart Crane and Rigging has been in business for 33 years, making a name for itself by providing innovative solutions to heavy lift, transport and rigging needs. This is a good fit for both companies, and we are pleased that Sonny Taylor will remain with the company as a consultant.”

According to Shawn Swanson, Barnhart’s north Alabama branch manager, “The Gadsden location is close to Interstate 59 and offers quick access to both the Birmingham and Chattanooga markets. Taylor Crane also has established a good business in machinery moving, which is one of the services that Barnhart specializes in, so we are looking at continuing to grow that business.” Swanson said that equipment either acquired with or moving to the new branch includes an 80,000-lb. forklift, a 30,000-lb. specialty riggers lift, 70-ton crane, a 65-ton crane, a 30-ton crane and a boom truck.
