MARDI GRAS PUTS MOBILE ON THE MAP

It’s Mardi Gras season in several parts of the country.  When people think of Mardi Gras, they usually associate New Orleans with the celebration. They wrongly assume that’s where the annual festivities have their roots.

In fact, an older port city about 150 miles east of New Orleans lays claim to that – Mobile, Alabama. Mobile is the birthplace of Mardi Gras, as featured in this article in Southern Living.

Mobile is special to Barnhart because three of our more than 50 branches are located in the area. Float designer Mark Calmetti, who is featured in the article, is also notable not only because of his creative skills, but also for keeping Barnhart employees in style as owner of Barnhart Outfitters.

Fat Tuesday is tomorrow, so it might be a little late to plan for the festivities this year. But put Mobile’s carnival season on your calendar for 2025.
